one year well-check

Whitney had her 12 month check up today, and thankfully we have a very healthy girl on our hands. She weighed in just over 22lbs (75th percentile) and is 30inches tall (75th percentile). Once again her head size is above the 95th percentile. This makes hat shopping a bit of a challenge, but it does also allow for a big brain. Somehow Whitney has managed to go the entire year without having an unscheduled doctor's appointment or a cold. We can only hope that this good fortune continues.

Whitney is still an excellent eater, if excellence is measured by a willingness to eat anything and having an insatiable appetite. The doctor said to continue feeding her as much food as she wants (assuming it's healthy) - but I'm skeptical we'll ever hit a point where Whitney decides that she's had enough. She now has her 8 front teeth plus 4 molars to help take down her large portions.

Just over a week ago Whitney took her first real steps. For a couple months she's been taking 2 or 3 to get from one piece of furniture to another. But on the evening before her 1st birthday she took about 10-12 steps at one time. It's so much fun to see her pass this milestone and witness how proud she is of herself. She'll regularly stop to clap (for herself) after she walks around. She's still crawling majority of the time, but definitely is mixing it up with some walking.

Whitney's vocabulary seems to be stuck on a couple words and a lot of jibberish, although she will imitate sounds (she loves to imitate the Count on Sesame Street with "ah ah ah"). Her favorite word is "dada" which she shouts emphatically. "Mama" isn't getting much love recently.

What a year our little girl has given us. Despite any challenges we've faced, she is a true blessing and we couldn't imagine a day without her.

T - 18 days and counting...

Now that Whitney has turned 1 year old, it's time to begin the official countdown for Baby #2. Luckily we're not superstitious because Baby #2 is expected to arrive on May 13th (as in Friday the 13th!).

Recently Whitney tested out a "big sister" hat, but it was a little too big. It turns out that most "big sister" apparel seems to be geared toward kids over 12 months old!

happy easter!

Easter weekend started off with Whitney getting to meet the Easter Bunny himself on Saturday!

We spent Saturday night at Nana and Papa's, but the Easter Bunny still found Whitney and hid an easter basket full of goodies for her. You'll notice she was a little unsure about the Peeps chick at first, but quickly gets over that.

The Easter fun continued at Uncle Jim and Aunt Colleen's house.

With a little help, Whitney was able to participate in her first Easter egg hunt. I must say she was pretty quick to understand what it was all about.

1st birthday - the final installment

Finally after all of the celebrating over the past week, Whitney's actual birthday arrived. The day itself was pretty low key, with the highlight being a 3rd cupcake! This time Whitney really dug in and made a mess of herself. All of her training paid off!

Grandma made sure that despite Whitney's busy life as a one-year old, she learned to stop and smell the flowers.

birthday party - part II

Festivities continued in Hudson on April 17th with family and a couple friends. If you can't tell from the pictures, Sesame Street was the theme. Thanks to everyone for joining us in celebrating the special occasion. A special thanks to all of the family members that traveled so far to be there. Another special thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Carlson for helping host the party.

Whitney's custom candy bar wrappers (yes, Mommy went a little overboard!)

Whitney enjoyed yet another cupcake to mark the occasion.

Henry asked Whitney if he could have a bite since his mom wouldn't give him any, but she didn't seem too interested in sharing.

It was a very special day, but it felt nice to relax at the end of it.

Whitney and Mommy weren't the only ones tuckered out...
